This was an usability analysis done as a case study and was not associated with the game studio. Report can be viewed on Google Drive.
This analysis was written to demonstrate how valuable expert reviews can be for different aspects of games such as tutorials. Tutorials if done improperly can lose players, so it's important to ensure that all aspects of a tutorial are helping rather than harming a game's onboarding experience for first time players. The analysis offers general usability, learnability, and interactive design insights from the mobile game.
The aspects of the game examined in this analysis included: onboarding, learnability, design consistency, and general usability. Player satisfaction, game balance, and progression were not included since no player data was used for this analysis.
The level of importance and issue triage was ranked based on how frequent and detrimental the issue would be to player progress and the usability of playing the game.
The approach was able to generate 14 actionable improvement points for the tutorial process
It gave 3 new insights for improvement that needed more research using player data
The whole process took ~2 in a half work days to complete:
1 work day was spent ingame & documenting the findings in Miro
1 in a half work days was spent on analyzing the findings, writing & designing the report
The findings can be converted to one-off tickets or scrum epics depending on the issue
